The Nantahala RiverLocated in scenic Wesser, North Carolina, the Nantahala is a cold, fast moving, roadside, class II-III river walled in a beautiful, shady gorge. This run is suitable for beginners. Patton’s Run is the first major rapid and it’s located just downstream of the put in. Best run on the right, it can be scouted on the drive up to the put in. The largest rapid on the run, Nantahala Falls, is located just above the takeout. This rapid has many eddies, waves, and holes, therefore, there are many lines to choose from. Scouting alongside the many spectators is easily done on the right via a concrete pathway maintained by Nantahala Outdoor Center. The run is 7.8 miles long and drops 36 fpm. The Nanty is a dam controlled river that releases from March to November.
The Ocoee RiverThe Ocoee is a super fun, big water, roadside, class III+ play river. Some of the best playboaters in the world cut their teeth on this run and can still be seen all summer long in the many waves and holes along the run. A dam released river located just outside of Chattanooga, Tennessee, it is extremely popular and crowded during the hot summer months. The action begins immediately and remains fairly constant with the exception of a section of flat water midway down known as the Doldrums. The run is 4.7 miles long and drops 58 fpm. Releases on this Southern classic are from March to November.
